Janet Villasmil, was born in Chicago, Illinois. Before relocating to the state of Florida, she liced in Venezuela for a number of years absorbing the Venezuelan culture. Her artistic work shows the cementing of cultures, which enable her to develope a style that is uniquely hers. Her work has been well received both in Venezuela and Florida.
While in Venezuela, Ms Villasmil represented the " Art Guild of Venezuel" in her state of Tachira, where she served as Secretary of International Affairs. Presently, Ms Villasmil is one of the Founding Members of Artists of Palm Beach County, where she serves on the Board of Directors.
Ms Villasmil has worked extensively in the Fine Arts as a painter, as well as in the Decorative Arts. Her love for the godliness of the human form and the land dominates her paintings. The artist works primerily in her studio using references of painted sketches done in Plein Air or open workshop, and her photographs of nature or human form. Creating masks and painting recicyled furniture is another of the artists delights.
One fellow artist stated that:"Her work is beautifully atmospheric. It delights in the figure with a keen eye towards composition. Her work renders media innovatively and lends uncommon surprised to the known. Upon exhibiting workd in Venezuela: (Ms Nino-Villasmil) contributed in converting the "Sala Eugenio Mendoza", into a magical world that takes the obseraver through imaginable pictorial scenes that show a comprehensive knowledge of (Simon Boliva) the "Liberator". In Caracas: "We take special note of two of the most attractive "pesebres" (nativity scene), especially one created by Ms Nino (Villasmil), depicting the mountains of Rubio, Tachira. A typical "Belen" (Bethlehem) of the region.
